The mission of Keep Scottsdale Special is to provide Scottsdale residents with the news, information, and resources they need to protect our city's special character and high quality of life. Unfortunately, these hard-won assets are under assault from special interests who want to exploit these assets for their own profit. And make no mistake, with the 2016 election over these special interests will be bringing a bonanza of bad proposals before the Scottsdale City Council in 2017, including:
  • The Desert Discovery Center, a 30-acre desert Disney land which will open the door to commercial development inside the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, plus cost Scottsdale taxpayers millions of dollars to build and operate.
  • An attempt to convince Scottsdale voters to increase our property taxes by hundreds of millions of dollars to free up general fund tax dollars for more special interest handouts - crony capitalism at its worst!
  • More intrusive commercial development in residential neighborhoods throughout Scottsdale.
  • Revive the budget-busting, business-destroying plan to run fixed rail up Scottsdale Road.
  • Bring back the city-subsidized competition which threatens the galleries, restaurants and shops in our Downtown that contribute to our economy and to Scottsdale's unique reputation for arts and culture.
  • Even more overdevelopment: tall buildings that block our views, high-density apartments that clog our streets and stress our infrastructure, and an out-of-control bar district.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg!

You can help prevent these assaults on Scottsdale's special character and high quality of life by becoming informed and involved. If, instead, you sit idly by and do nothing, you will wake up one day soon to find the Scottsdale you moved here to enjoy has disappeared. Step one is to sign up for our email list (we will not sell your email address to anyone else) so you will receive updates on critical city issues in time to do something about them.
